The National Accountability Bureau Monday informed the Accountability Court hearing multibillion rupees fake bank accounts case that the NAB investigators could not probe accused Faryal Talpur during the previous two remands because she was attending the Sindh Assembly session after issuance of her production orders.
NAB Prosecutor Usman Mirza told Accountability Court Judge Muhammad Arshad Malik that during the previous two remands of Talpur, which lasted for around 23 days, Investigation Officer (IO) Muhammad Ali Abro got the opportunity to investigate the accused only once as she being a member of Sindh Assembly went to attend the assembly session following issuance of her production orders by the speaker concerned.
Mirza requested the court to grant 14 days physical remand of the accused for completing the investigations. Earlier, the NAB officials produced former president Asif Ali Zardari, his sister Talpur and other suspects before the court amid tight security arrangements. During the hearing, Zardari came to rostrum and asked whether the IO is asking for his physical remand once again. "Will you take me into custody for 90-day remand?" he asked the IO.
To this the IO said that NAB has his custody till July 14 and would not request for further remand during this hearing. The court marked attendance of all the accused and adjourned hearing till July 22. The superintendent and doctor of Malir Jail appeared before the court and produced medical report of accused Anwar Majeed. When the court inquired about Majeed's age, the doctor replied that the accused is 78-year-old. He said that Majeed is seriously ill and could not travel.
The home secretary Sindh also appeared before the court. He informed the court that Majeed was also summoned by the Supreme Court but he could not be produced before the apex court due to his bad health. He further told the court that a medical board was constituted following the directives of former Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar. The apex court exempted Majeed from personnel appearance before it on the recommendation of medical board, he said.
The court will indict the accused on the next hearing after the distribution of copies of reference among them. There were a total of 30 accused including Asif Zardari, Talpur, Hussain Lawai, Taha Raza, Anwar Majeed, Abdul Ghani Majeed, Noreen Sultan, Kiran Aman, Adeel Shah Rashidi, Muhammad Ashraf, Qasim Ali, Shahzad Ali, Sher Muhammad, Zain Malik, Iqbal Khan Noori, Nimr Majeed, Mustafa Zulqarnain, Aslam Masood, Muhammad Arif Khan, Nassar Abdullah, Adnan Javed, Muhammad Umair, Iqbal Arian, Azam Wazir Khan, Christopher D Craz, Muhammad Nasir Sheikh, Ghanzanfar Ahsan, Sawoodi Morkas, Muhammad Raheel Mobin, and Ali Kamal Majeed.
