Supreme Court (SC) on Monday turned down the bail petition of Municipal Officer Ramesh Parwani, accused for embezzlement of public funds in development works in Ghari Yaseen, Shikarpur district. At Karachi Registry, SC bench comprised of Justice Maqbool Baqir and Justice Sajjad Ali Shah upheld the decision for SHC. Parwani has been accused of misappropriation in the funds for 25 development works in Ghari Yaseen. Court asked the counsel for Parwani to prove that his client was not posted at the time of withdrawal of funds for the scheme. However counsel failed to satisfy the court.
Justice Shah said that some accused in this case have already applied for plea bargain whereas court rejected the bail petitions for co-accused in this case. Justice Baqir said that court can't grant bail to accused as case involved huge losses to national exchequer. SC bench also rejected the appeal of Food Inspector Abdul Sattar Laghari, who was terminated from the services in Food Department Sindh for theft of wheat from government stocks. Court observed that first the wheat was stolen then it was shown recovered. However accused can't be exonerated even after recovery of the theft things. Court said that keeping the government wheat in private godown is illegal and accused was also involved in its theft after counsel for Laghari pleaded the court to reinstate to his job after recovery of the stolen wheat.
