PAD warns against whitefly attack

Whitefly is a dangerous sucking pest of the cotton crop which can cause up to 60 per cent loss in the production besides quality degeneration. In an advisory issued here on Tuesday, spokesman of the provincial agriculture department said that whitefly causes disease of leaf curl virus and growers should carry out pest scouting twice a week to keep a vigil against its attack. He said that nitrogen based fertilizers should be used initially and spray should be carried out with the consultation of local agricultural experts if its attack reaches beyond threshold.
