Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Punjab President Qamar Zaman Kaira said on Tuesday that there is no possibility of martial law because both the institutions and political parties have learnt their part of lessons. Despite the non-serious attitude of the government, the joint opposition is agitating that it would not let anyone undermine Parliament, he added. He was addressing a press conference.
He expressed the hope that the Speaker National Assembly would listen to the advice of Bilawal Bhutto carefully regarding the working of parliamentary committees, saying that austerity can be achieved in many other ways. He said expenditures wouldn't matter if Parliament is performing well. According to him, the prime minister, ministers, speaker and deputy speaker are earning bad name for the parliament.
He also criticised Chairman FBR Shabbar Zaidi and called him 'selected', saying that he has made a false statement that no tax, barring sugar, has been imposed. He also questioned that why both industrialists and traders are protesting against budget if no new tax has been imposed in the budget. He said the government has failed to achieve last year revenue target despite three times revision downward and posed question that how the government would be able to achieve revenue target of Rs5,500 billion in a situation when everyone is observing strike in the country.
On the controversy regarding alleged video of Judge Arshad Malik, he said the Supreme Court should set up a judicial commission, especially when the government has also urged the judiciary to take action. He said Maryam Nawaz should also put forward further proofs in her possession. He also called the government as 'fascist', saying that it had not allowed Maryam Nawaz to hold rally in Mandi Bahauddin.
