A meeting of the Senate's Functional Committee on Devolution was adjourned on Thursday due to absence of minister and secretary for Ministry for Inter-Provincial Coordination and secretary Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development. The committee showed grave concern over the absence of top government officials from the panel's scheduled meeting and was of the opinion that the "exercise" to hold Senate committee meetings was futile in the absence of key decision-makers. Chairman committee Moula Bux Chandio from Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) said, "The Parliament's sanctity must be maintained and the most important is that the people's mandate be respected and promises fulfilled."
He asserted that government agencies are "most respected, yet aimless discourse is not the objective of this committee." PPP's Sassi Palijo, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz's (PML-N's) Lieutenant General Salahuddin Tirmizi (retd) and Secretary Establishment Division Dr Ijaz Munir were among the attendees of the meeting.
