Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Arif Nawaz Khan has expressed resentment over reports that senior police officers do not spare time for the complainants who visit their offices seeking legal action or registration of first information reports (FIRs). An official said on Friday that the IGP has directed the Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore and all RPOs and DPOs to keep the doors of their offices open for the complainants so that they do not face any problem.
"The IGP also directed that police officers and officials should call internal departmental meetings and other official meetings well before the arrival of general public or after they have been listened to. The senior officers should dedicate a fixed time and also advertise it for hearing public complaints and their timely resolution so that accessibility of public may not be hampered," the IGP advised through a notification dispatched to all senior cops.
The complainants must not be kept waiting for long hours when an officer is available. It is intolerable to keep the complainants waiting unduly during the presence of any officer in his/her office, he added. "It is the responsibility of the police to save life, wealth and respect of the people, therefore all the officers are directed to keep their doors open and hear and resolve the grievances of aggrieved persons according to open door policy."
