Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has decided to speed up its protest along with other opposition parties against the PTI-led government by holding rallies and public meetings on July 25, to expose its failures on all fronts including economic front.
A meeting of the PML-N Central Executive Committee (CEC) was held here at the PML-N Secretariat on Saturday. The PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif chaired the meeting, which was attended by members of the committee, including Ahsan Iqbal, Maryam Nawaz, Marriyum Aurangzeb, Khurram Dastgir, Pervaiz Rasheed and many others.
Sources claimed that the PML-N CEC discussed the country's current political and economic situation and recent arrests of the PML-N activists including the former PM Shahid Khaqan Abbasi. It was decided to face the revengeful activities of the government.
The meeting also demanded immediate release of Nawaz Sharif after forensic audit of videos involving accountability judge. It also adopted a strategy to counter revengeful activities of the government against the PML-N leadership. It was decided to show full strength on July 25, when the joint opposition has given a call for observing black day against "dacoity" on public mandate.
Addressing the meeting, Shehbaz Sharif expressed his resolve to fight "fascist tactics" of the Imran Khan government against the opposition. He saluted the PML-N activists who are facing revengeful activities with courage.
After the meeting, Ahsan Iqbal in a media talk criticized the incumbent government over soaring inflation and rise in poverty graph leading to manifold problems for the countrymen.
He said the "selected government" has neither any economic agenda nor economic team to pull the country out of manifold problems. He said the incumbent so-called government has so far obtained loans of Rs 7000 billion in less than one year. "The poor people are suffering due to soaring inflation while poverty graph is rising in the country," he said, adding: "Selected PM only level false allegations on opponents and had no concern with the plight of countrymen."
Ahsan said that around one million people rendered jobless during one-year rule of the PTI government while there are estimates that four million people would go below poverty line. He said the PML-N is united and if any leader is arrested other will replace him.
"The PML-N will not bow down and continue to raise voice against the anti-people policies of the incumbent government," he said, adding: "After forensic audit of video, there is no justification of detention of Nawaz Sharif." He added that the video itself negated the affidavit of Arshad Malik. He said the Supreme Court should take notice and ensure provision of justice.
To a question, he said the opposition has 65 members in the Senate and Mir Hasil Bizenjo will be new Chairman Senate. He vowed that the opposition would foil the designs of the government.
He condemned censorship on media and held the PTI government responsible for this to stop the voice of truth. He expressed solidarity with the media men.
Earlier, PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif while appearing before an accountability court said he considers stealing from earthquake victims the same as "feeding on corpses". He said that accusations in the British newspaper were ludicrous. He said he had written a letter to the Prime Minister inquiring where NAB was when the alleged money-laundering was taking place by an official working for the Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority (ERRA).
Moreover, Ahsan Iqbal chaired a multi-party conference of Punjab leadership of opposition in which programme was finalized for holding protest rallies on July 25.
"We are observing July 25 a black day across the country," Ahsan said. He said the PML-N was gearing up to launch a protest campaign against this fascist government. The leaders of PPP Mian Manzoor Ahmed, Haji Aziz ur Rehman Chann, Maulana Amjad of JUI-F and others attended the meeting. It was decided to hold public meeting at the Mall on July 25 while public meetings will also be held at Islamabad, Peshawar and Karachi.
