Steady trend was witnessed on the cotton market on Wednesday in the process of moderate trading, dealers said. The official spot rate was unchanged at Rs 7800, they added. In ready session, over 9000 bales of cotton changed hands between Rs 7650 and Rs 8200, they said. Rates of seed cotton per 40kg in Sindh were at Rs 3000-3400, in Punjab prices were at Rs 3500-4000, they said. In Balochistan, seed cotton prices were at Rs 3500-3600, they said.
In Sindh and Punjab, Binola prices per maund were at Rs 1500-1600, they said and adding that polyester fibre per kg rates were at Rs 187. Some brokers said that a kind of uncertainty prevailed among buyers, who indulged in hectic buying of fine quality cotton. Sharing the same idea, cotton analyst, Naseem Usman said that prices of quality cotton likely to show upward trend in the coming days.
Farmers and growers were worried about the latest negative developments on cotton belt due to flash flood caused by sudden release of water from India.
Adds Reuters: ICE cotton futures inched down on Tuesday after falling 1% in the previous session, as lack of demand for the natural fibre weighed on the market despite declining US crop ratings. Cotton contracts for December settled down 0.1 cent, or 0.17%, at 59.14 cents per lb.
Total futures market volume rose by 3,508 to 18,238 lots. Data showed total open interest fell 515 to 214,313 contracts in the previous session. Following deals were reported: 800 bales of cotton from Shahdadpur at Rs 7650, 1200 bales from Sanghar at Rs 7650-7700, 1000 bales from Tando Adam at Rs 7700, 400 bales from Shahpur Chakar at Rs 7700-7800, 600 bales from Nawabshah at Rs 7700-7800, 400 bales from Kotri at Rs 7700, 200 bales from Johl at the same rate, 400 bales from Khadro at Rs 7700-7800, 100 bales from Khanewal at Rs 8000, 800 bales from Chichawatni at Rs 8000-8200, 200 bales from Hasilpur at Rs 8150, 600 bales from Rajanpur at Rs 8200 and 400 bales from Haroonabad at Rs 8150, they said.
