Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Ahsan Iqbal on Monday alleged that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government's failed economic policies have posed 'serious threats' to Pakistan's national security.
Speaking at a news conference along with Marriyum Aurangzeb and Musadiq Malik, Ahsan Iqbal criticised Prime Minister Imran Khan for his Sunday's speech in Washington, saying that it was repetition of the same 'allegations' the Prime Minister has been levelling against the opponents time and again.
"Your policies are becoming a national security risk. Imran Khan, perhaps, has been imposed on the country with an objective to bring down the economy to a level where we might be asked to roll back our missile programme or nuclear programme in return of any bailout package," the PML-N leader maintained.
He asserted that time is ripe to launch a 'decisive' struggle, adding, "This is the fight for the rule of law and PML-N will not compromise on it; rather, we are ready to pay price. This is the fight for our next generations and we will render whatsoever sacrifice it needs for the continuation of rule of law and Constitution so that the right to rule of the people is recognised in the country."
Further criticising the Prime Minister's speech to the Pakistani Diaspora in Washington, Ahsan said that a prime minister when goes abroad is supposed to the representative of the country, but Premier Khan resorted to repeat the same allegations.
He further alleged that the 'selected' Prime Minister has neither a vision, nor any experience, adding that his speech was no different from what had been delivered at D-Chowk from a container in the past.
"The lack of vision is to the extent of low that a prime minister, who is supposed to represent Pakistan abroad, delivered a speech our politicians used to give at Mochi Gate," he said, adding that Prime Minister Khan's speech was no different from a head of an NGO who would only bring bad things about the country.
"You need not to worry about the facilities of TV and air conditioner to Nawaz Sharif in jail, but you need to worry and think about the downing economy and the poor of the country whose bread has been snatched," he said, adding that the economic indicators show that around 0.4 million people are going to become jobless and about one million are being feared to go below the poverty line due to the economic recession.
About the arrest of the former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, he said that Prime Minister Imran Khan in his speech admitted that he sent Abbasi to jail and it was acknowledgment that the ongoing accountability process is nothing but 'political revenge.'
He said that the government ministers through their statements are trying to affect Pakistan-Qatar relations which have been time-tested, adding that the LNG deal finalised by Abbasi with Qatar was at the best rates.
Speaking on the occasion, Musadiq Malik said that the arrest of Shahid Khaqan Abbasi is being linked with the LNG deal with Qatar while he has been arrested under the charges of misuse of authority in LNG terminal.
He insisted that PPRA rules were followed in bidding for the LNG terminal and the consultants were not hired by the government of Pakistan but by the USAID through a transparent way.
