Pakistani diaspora has strong faith in the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan, said Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Information and Broadcasting, adding that the premier's current visit to the US is aimed at protecting the interests of Pakistan.
Talking to mediapersons at Karachi Press Club on Monday, she said the Prime Minister is taking the country to new heights on international level with main focus on projecting its contribution to the cause of peace in the region and its impact on the global scene.
About the scheduled meeting between Prime Minister Imran Khan and US President Donald Trump, she was of the opinion that misconceptions about Pakistan would be rectified and attempts to isolate the country by enemies shall be quashed.
"The mega event in Washington DC held last night attended by no less than 30,000 members of Pakistani diaspora also reflects the confidence of the expatriate Pakistanis on Prime Minister Imran Khan," she added.
The role of the US-based Pakistanis in bringing closer the relationship between Pakistan and the US cannot be ignored, said Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan, reiterating that as representatives and the custodian of the interests of 22 million Pakistanis, Imran Khan enjoys the trust of the masses.
Sacrifices rendered by 75,000 Pakistanis in the war against terrorism have to be duly highlighted and ought to be recognized by the world community. She regretted that certain immature political opponents were trying to harm the cause of IK's visit. "If they are so keen to do politics...they must do it within the country but not on foreign lands," she said.
About her visit to Karachi since assuming her current responsibility as the special assistant to the PM, equivalent to the status of a minister, Dr Firdous said this was following the directives of Imran Khan.
She at the outset of her talk said recent mishaps during a talkshow at a local channel leading to manhandling of KPC president by a PTI member was although an individual act yet she along with other senior PTI leaders including Firdous Shamim Naqvi, apologize to the journalists' community for this mishap.
Since assuming my fresh responsibilities, I have also held series of meetings with the journalist bodies and stakeholders to help address the issue of lays-offs, non-payment of salaries and pending payment of dues, she maintained.
The PTI government is in the process of extending legal cover to the protection of the rights of journalists and media workers.
She said winning seats in the Fata polls reflects the fact that the party under the leadership of Imran Khan enjoys public support. Emphasizing that polls in Fata were held in an absolutely free and fair manner, she said polls in Ghotki seem highly controversial.
