Supreme Court (SC) on Monday dismissed pleas of claimants over the ownership of quarters of Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC) in district Korangi, Karachi after the court ruled that the KMC has the ownership rights over these quarters.
At Karachi Registry, the SC bench headed by Justice Gulzar Ahmed rejected the applications of claimants after Director Katchi Abadi, the KMC submitted the report in the court. According to the report, the KMC got vacated the quarters, which belonged to it. Sindh High Court (SHC) had already turned down the petition of claimants over these quarters.
The claimants through their counsel submitted in the court that they have been living in these quarters for the last 45 years. "It doesn't make any difference whether you have been living there for 45 years or 100 years." Upon the pleas of women with their choked voices, Justice Gulzar remarked, "these would not serve any purpose. Whether you want that whole Pakistan should be allotted to you".
Justice Sajjad Ali Shah that claimants sought the permission from the KMC for installation of electricity meters, which meant the quarters belonged to the civic body.
Meanwhile, the bench rejected the appeal of Sindh Government against the induction of peons in Education Department, District Khairpur. Provincial government submitted that newly inducted peons didn't meet the criteria of appointment. Justice Sajjad Ali Shah remarked that whether Sindh Government is left with the work to challenge the appointment of peons. Deputy Advocate General stated that newly inducted peons didn't meet the criteria of education, at which Justice Gulzar said whether you want the peons should be PhD.
The SC bench suspended the decision of service tribunal for reinstatement of a police constable, allegedly having connections with criminal on the appeal of IG Sindh.
Sindh police submitted in the court that a constable was sacked after issuing him show-cause notice over his links with criminal elements. He was removed from the service after he didn't reply the show-cause notice. A service tribunal reinstated Constable Ali Chandio, which the court dismissed.
