Fixit campaign founder Alamgir Khan, a Member National Assembly (MNA) belonging to PTI, was finally released on personal surety after having been arrested twice due to protest against Sindh government and the clash between his supporters and PPP workers on Sunday. Aaj News reported that soon after his release, Alamgir vowed to go again to register protest outside CM's House and Local Government Minister's office.
The die-hard workers of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and FixIt campaigners clashed as the latter gathered outside the camp office of Local Government minister Saeed Ghani at Teen Talwar (Three Swords) Clifton to protest against shortage of water in Karachi. They were also protesting against heaps of garbage in the city.
However, police arrested and then released Alamgir Khan briefly but re-arrested him. Finally, he and at least six of his supporters were released on personal surety. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's MNA Alamgir said he had been on way to Teen Talwar to address a press conference and hardly four or five people accompanied him when PPP's "hooligans" attacked them.
But, police had intervened when the workers of the PPP that rules Sindh province and PTI which rules the entire country, clashed. The police cops controlled the situation. They registered a case against 38 persons, including Alamgir Khan, who was detained at Frere Police station for quite sometime.
At least 25 members have been arrested by police and several others were injured, Alamgir Khan said, talking to the media.
On the other hand, a PPP leader and Sindh Local Government Saeed Ghani said that holding peaceful protest is right of every citizen, but the FixIt members threw sewerage water inside the Chief Minister's (CM) House and took the law into their hands.
"PTI should make clear whether FixIt is its subsidiary or not," he asked. Ghani said it was strange that FixIt was holding protest and PTI was reacting to the incident. He said there are other ways to record protest but their cheap protest had it they drew pictures on manhole covers.
Khurram Sher Zaman, PTI MPA, accompanied by Alamgir after his release, also spoke to the media. He reminded Saeed Ghani that it is his responsibility as local government minister to ensure gutters manholes must not remain coverless. He warned that they would fix LG minister's images wherever they would see manholes without covers/caps and display Chief Minister's photos wherever they would see heaps of garbage.
