Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders on Tuesday asked Prime Minister Imran Khan and his Adviser on Accountability Shahzad Akbar to present evidence in courts against all its jailed leaders. Speaking at a news conference, PML-N senior leaders including Ayaz Sadiq and party's spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb claimed that the British publication The Mail on Sunday has responded to the 'defamation suit' filed against the paper by party's President Shahbaz Sharif on July 25.
Sadiq maintained that the British publication has written back to Sharif that it will not be able to respond to the suit within the short period of two weeks. "It means that they have no proof or evidence to prove the allegations levelled against Shahbaz Sharif in its story published on July 14. If they have any [evidence], they must present them in the court," he added.
He also asked Prime Minister's Adviser on Accountability Shehzad Akbar to become a party in the case and approach the British court and also present the evidence if he has any in the country's court against Shahbaz Sharif.
"This will rather be good to present the evidence before the British court which cannot be influenced," he said, challenging the adviser to prove the allegations against Sharif or refrain from levelling 'baseless' allegations against the political leaders.
The former Speaker National Assembly also alleged the ruling PTI to have adopted a policy to roll back China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). "This is being done to please foreign masters," he alleged, adding that the delay in ongoing CPEC projects and failure to initiate the work on the new projects is what which indicates the 'designs' of the ruling party.
He further alleged that the ruling PTI is blindly following the agenda given to it by the International Monetary Fund (IMF). "What the IMF said, it [government] acted upon without thinking about the repercussions," he said, adding that the government in its past 11 months has miserably failed to resolve the problems being faced by the masses.
The opposition political parties, according to him, had extended a helping hand for making a 'charter of economy' as well as on the measures to resolve the problems of the people and for the reason two sessions were also held with Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser.
Speaking on the occasion, Marriyum Aurangzeb challenged the Prime Minister and his adviser to present the alleged evidence against PML-N jailed leaders including those levelled in the British publication against Shehbaz Sharif. "Shehzad Akbar has nothing except the baseless allegations. If you have anything as evidence, I challenge you to go and present them in the British court. And also make a case against Shehbaz Sharif based on your 'so-called' evidence if you have any," she said while referring to Akbar's presser on Sunday last in which he stated that only 5 percent evidence was given to the British journalist and 95 percent was still with him.
"Tell the date, when you are going to file a case [against Sharif] in the British court," she further asked, adding that Hamza Shehbaz, Rana Sanaullah and Saad Rafique have been in the jail while they have been failed to present any evidence against them. She claimed that the Prime Minister's Adviser has violated the Official Secret Act as access to the under-trial prisoners and sensitive documents had been provided to the British publication.
