The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Wednesday launched corruption inquiries against Pakistan People Party (PPP) senior leader Syed Khursheed Shah, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Sardar Mehtab Khan Abbasi and others. According to a NAB official, the decision to this effect was taken in NAB's Executive Board Meeting (EBM) presided over by NAB Chairman former justice Javed Iqbal. The Bureau decided to start corruption inquiries against Shah, Abbasi and others.
The EBM approved filing a corruption reference, launching nine inquiries and four investigations. The NAB official said that NAB has launched corruption inquiries against nine persons including MNA Shah, former governor Mehtab Abbasi, Khalid Sher Dil, former secretary industries Punjab, Muhammad Iqbal Khan, SDFO forest subdivision Mangora and Swat, officers and officials of Auqaf department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, management of education department Quetta, officers and officials of provincial highway authority Khairpur, Manwar Nazir Abbasi, former chief executive officer Sukkur Electric Power Company and officials of public health department Punjab and Punjab Highways department.
The bureau also decided to file a corruption reference against Syed Ikram Ullah Shah, former XEN operation FATA Circle Peshawar. The accused has allegedly given unauthorised connection to different steel mills by misusing authority which incurred losses of Rs 49.07 million to the national exchequer. The NAB also okayed four investigations against management of Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL), officials of Privatisation Commission, officer and officials of Trust Investment Bank, officials and officers of Ministry of information and Broadcasting and officer of Galiyat Development Authority Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
