Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)'s cricket committee is meeting here at Qadaffi stadium on Friday (today) to discuss important issues pertaining to future of cricket in Pakistan. Led by Wasim Khan, the cricket committee is comprised of former Test captains Misbah-ul-Haq and Wasim Akram and former women's cricket team captain Urooj Mumtaz. The cricket committee would review the performances of the men's, women's, and Under-19 side's over the past three years and take important decisions. The most pressing issue, however, is regarding the future of Mickey Arthur, who is the head coach of the Pakistan's men's side till 15th August, with the Pakistan side, sources said.
Managing Director Wasim Khan, however, said the cricket committee would not rush into any decisions based on knee-jerk reactions when it meets today.
Sources claimed that the PCB is leaning towards not renewing the central contracts of all-rounder Shoaib Malik and Mohammad Hafeez as well as pacer Junaid Khan
A panel of PCB, under Managing Director Waseem Khan, is going to devise a new formula of awarding central contracts. The new system would likely see the number of contracted cricketers reduced from 33 to somewhere between 15 and 20. However, the remunerations on offer to the retained cricketers could be increased, the sources added.
Cricketers Rumman Raees, Mohammad Nawaz, Rahat Ali, Usman Salahuddin and Hussain Talat, Bilal Asif, Umaid Asim and Sahibzada Farhan are also not likely to get central contract.
