The provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has planned the electrification of 100 villages through solar energy in the province. According to official sources in the Energy and Power Department, under this scheme 2900 units of solar energy will be installed in central and southern districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The scheme has been started in 2018 with the estimated cost of Rs 241 million and will complete during the current financial year.
The provincial government has already electrified 100 villages in Chitral through solar energy. Under the scheme, 2750 units of solar energy have been installed in Chitral district with the cost of Rs 325 million due to flood damages of Rehsun Hydel Power Project (HPP) in 2015. The scheme has already been completed.
Meanwhile, the solarisation of Planning & Development (P&D) of Civil Secretariat was completed as a pilot project while solarization of the remaining departments of the secretariat has been started with estimated cost of Rs 190 million. Similarly, the Chief Minister's Secretariat will be solarised with estimated cost of Rs 109 million. Furthermore, the provincial government has also planned the solarisation of 4000 mosques in the province with the estimated cost of Rs 2.414 billion while 300 mosques in newly merged districts (NMD) of the erstwhile FATA will be solarised with the estimated cost of Rs 166 million.
