Flour mills in South Korea on Friday purchased a total of some 85,250 tonnes of milling wheat to be sourced from the United States, European traders said. Two purchases were made involving different wheat grades. Shipment was reported to be in October, traders said. The first purchase totalled 50,000 tonnes and involved 22,750 tonnes of soft white wheat of 10.5% protein, 1,320 tonnes of soft white wheat of 8.5% protein, 10,950 tonnes of hard red winter of 11.5% protein and 14,980 tonnes of northern spring wheat of 14% protein.
Individual prices were not available, but the total consignment cost $10.855 million, traders said. The second purchase totalling 35,250 tonnes involved 11,500 tonnes of soft white wheat of 10.5% protein, 1,050 tonnes of soft white wheat of 8.5% protein, 8,500 tonnes of hard red winter of 11.5% protein and 14,200 tonnes of northern spring of 14% protein.
Again individual prices were unavailable but the second consignment cost a total of $7.738 million, traders said.
Chicago most active wheat futures fell 1.6% to a two-month low on Thursday as new US import tariffs on Chinese goods indicated the US/China trade war is far from being solved.
