The Punjab police in collaboration with the Sindh and Balochistan police have started devising a tri-border security plan which will be submitted to Prime Minister Imran Khan. A police spokesman said that IGP Arif Nawaz Khan on Tuesday chaired a meeting of expert group of tri-border security at central police office (CPO) in which IG Sindh Dr Syed Kaleem Imam and IG Balochistan Muhsan Hassan Butt participated while AIG Balochistan Naeem Akram Bharoka joined through a video-link.
During the meeting, the trio police chiefs reviewed in detail matters regarding the tri-border security to develop consensus on a joint action plan that will be later submitted to PM Imran Khan through the Ministry of Interior, added the spokesman. According to the action plan, in tri-border area of Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan joint operations will be carried out to eliminate hideouts of anti-social elements. It was also agreed to purge the areas of border districts on Indus River, forest and Kacha. He said the government will be requested for the provision of more weapons and equipments so that the police force may continue its operation without facing any shortage of the supplies.
He said the police chiefs also agreed upon timely information sharing and intelligence based operations to stop movement of anti-social elements in these areas besides boosting up operations other law enforcement agencies. It was also decided that reverie posts in border districts will be further strengthened by involving Railway Police during joint operations. Coordination at grass root level to stop weapon and drug smuggling in border districts was also agreed and the police forces of the three provinces will carry out operation simultaneously against criminals involved in ransom kidnapping, dacoity and other crimes.
"The combing and intelligence-based operations (IBOs) will be carried out against the network of proscribed originations involved in anti-state activities, funding and other criminal actions. All the DPOs of tri-border districts will meet on monthly basis to further improve the border security while RPOs will meet after three months and Inspectors General (IGs) will meet after six months to review the joint operations," he added. The spokesman said that the next meeting of the expert group for tri-border security will be held in Karachi in January 2020.
