The federal cabinet on Friday hailed a statement by UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres on Kashmir and decided to include opposition members in a recently formed committee on latest development on Kashmir issue. "The federal cabinet admired UN Secretary General for endorsing ours and people of Kashmir's stance," Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan in a post-cabinet presser.
The federal cabinet also approved suspending bilateral trade ties with India, as earlier decided in the National Security Council's meeting summoned after India revoked occupied Kashmir's special status. She said the cabinet approved all decisions taken by joint session of the parliament and National Security Committee (NSC) and members of the committee vowed that they will back whatever decision the prime minister will take on Kashmir.
In view of latest Indian government's decisions that changed decades long status of Indian Held Kashmir (IHK), Prime Minister Imran Khan has formed a seven-member committee in which heads of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISI) and Military Intelligence (MI) are its members. The committee will make recommendations to formulate the legal/political/diplomatic response to the latest developments related to Indian occupied Kashmir.
The federal cabinet decided to expand the committee to give representation to the opposition, President Azad Kashmir Sardar Masood Khan, Prime Minister AJK Raja Farooq Haider and Prime Minister Gilgit Baltistan in the committee. During the session, the Cabinet also gave approval to the new constitution of the Pakistan Cricket Board.
In the new constitution, regional system in the sport has been abolished. Due to the measure, now provincial teams will participate in domestic cricket. The federal Cabinet also gave approval to remove Farukh Sabzwari from the post of Chairman Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan. In the same meeting, it was decided to appoint Masood Naqvi as chairman of the SECP policy board.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Imran Khan telephoned to the King of Bahrain, His Majesty Shaikh Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa, to apprise him of the evolving situation in the Indian Occupied Kashmir (IOK) and Indian violation of the UN Security Council. The Bahraini ruler said the government of Bahrain was closely monitoring the developments in the IOK with deep concern and hoped that all issues would be resolved through dialogue.
During the cabinet meeting, the prime minister decided to expose Indian government's designs through media. It was also decided that the nation will expressed solidarity with Kashmiri brethren on the occasion of Independence Day on August 14. The meeting decided to give task to Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) to clean Karachi with the help of all stakeholders. A sum of Rs 55.5 million was also approved in this regard.
The meeting approved 10 initiatives presented under the government's flagship programme Ehsas for the betterment of the poor. They including Langer Khanas, Mazdoor Ka Ehsas, education for poor children, stalls and railway stations, etc. The meeting has also decided to ease restriction of Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) on construction of high rise buildings in Karachi, Lahore, Multan and Peshawar. "Prime Minister directed civil aviation to come up with recommendations to provide ease to the builders in the next meeting," she added.
