The Sindh Assembly proceedings on Friday lasted for a few minutes when deputy speaker Rehana Leghari announced adjourning the house. As soon as she came to chair the session, PTI's legislator Khurrum Sher Zaman Khan reacted: "You [Leghari] are the [acting] Governor; hence cannot chair the assembly session." Leghari flatly replied she was there to preside over the provincial legislature sitting and not as governor.
Her remarks evoked instant reaction from the PTI and other opposition parties' lawmakers. No sooner did they begin protesting, the deputy speaker announced adjournment of the session, yet again. She said: "It means you don't want the session to continue," she said.
Since Sindh Governor Imran Ismail has gone on Hajj pilgrimage, Sindh Assembly speaker is required to serve as acting governor as well. However, Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani is not being allowed to serve as acting governor due to NAB probe against him. And interestingly, deputy speaker Rehana Leghari refused to assume the charge.
