Likewise, other parts of the country, the 72nd Independence Day on Wednesday celebrated as 'Kashmir Solidarity Day' across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to express harmony and solidarity with Kashmiris in their recent plight caused by the Indian government.
In this connection, trade bodies, civil society, workers of political parties, and people from different walk of life took out rallies, while special ceremonies and function held in public and private educational institutions. Schools kids presented tableau and sung national songs.
Similarly, different organizations had arranged seminars, mushaira, sports events, national song and speech competitions in this regard.
A flag hoisting ceremony was held on eve of 72nd Independence Day at Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry here on Wednesday. SCCI president, Faiz Muhammad Faiz hoisted the Pakistan national flag during the ceremony in which a great national enthusiasm and fervour was demonstrated by participants present on the occasion.
Haris Mufti, the chamber vice president, executive committee members along with members of the business community were present on the occasion.
The participants on the occasion expressed solidarity with people of Kashmir during the function. They offered prayers for integrity, solidarity and sustainable peace of the country, especially economic stability.
Faiz Muhammad while speaking at the ceremony congratulated the nation on eve of 72nd Independence Day. On the occasion, he strongly deplored the Indian aggression on innocent Kashmiris and state-terrorism of Indian armed forces in occupied Kashmir.
SCCI chief praised the Pakistani armed forces and whole nation for observing the 14 August (Independence Day) as "Kashmir Solidarity Day". He said the day of August 14 remembered us about the commitment to give all kind of sacrifices for economic development, stability and peace and prosperity of the country.
He vowed to follow of founder father of Pakistan, Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah motto and renowned quotes of "Unity, Discipline and Faith". He said the country will put on path of development and sustainable progress by following the quotes of the founding leader of the country, Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah. He advised the youth to work hard for construction and development of the country and render every sacrifice for the motherland
Meanwhile, Pakistan Study Centre University of Peshawar celebrated Independence Day with patriotic fervour. All staff members led by Director Prof Dr Fakhr-ul-Islam attended main flag hoisting ceremony in front of Convocation hall. Pro Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Jauhar Ali was the chief gust.
In Pakistan Study Centre itself three events were organized. Dr Fakhar hoisted flag on the Centre's building. He then inaugurated the newly erected model of Bab-e-Khyber in the Centre's building.
The other activity of the day was a cake cutting ceremony wherein Sohail Anjum, the grandson of Allah Bakhsh Yousfi was the chief guest. Dr Fakhar paid rich tributes to Allah Bakhsh Yousfi and other stalwarts of the Pakistan Movement. He said that the day is being celebrated as solidarity with Kashmiris.
The Chief Guest Sohail Anjum said that we should raise ourselves above ethnic and racial prejudices and work sincerely for Pakistan. Ali Imran Assistant professor Journalism Department also spoke on the occasion.
