KP Chief Minister Mahmood Khan has directed the starting of second shift in the colleges of Swat to give admission to maximum number of boys and girls in the district. He further directed the starting of second shift in all those colleges that have space.
He issued these directives while presiding over a meeting regarding initiating of second shift in different colleges of the province here at Chief Minister's House on Sunday. Besides, Advisor to CM on Elementary and Secondary Education, Ziaullah Bangash, the Secretary Elementary and Secondary Education, Secondary Higher Education and other concerned authorities attended the meeting. During the meeting the chief minister was briefed in detail about starting of second shift in different colleges of Swat and line of action for generation of new seats in those colleges.
The chief minister directed the starting of classes in all those college buildings that are completed and acceleration of the pace of work on all under construction buildings. He hinted at conducting homework before starting of Islamia College Swat that would be followed by affiliating it with the Islamia College Peshawar.
The chief minister was told that so far Government Post Graduate Jehanzeb College, Swat has received 9000 applications for 1250 seats while the department has increased present seats by 25% to provide admission to maximum number of students. Similarly, Government Post Graduate College for Women has received 3630 applications against 800 available seats and for the second shift the seats have been increased by 250. Furthermore, Government Degree College, Mingora No.2 has received 5500 applications against 500 admission seats. The college is not ready for starting second shift so far. However, arrangements for 150 seats in the college would be made shortly.
The chief minister was also told that Government Degree College, Kabal has also received 2820 applications against 500 total seats. The college has already divided first year and second year classes into two shifts and under that 250 seats each have been reserved for morning and evening shifts. The chief minister was also told that PC-I of the Engineering University Swat is also ready while the Project Management Unit (PMU) of the university will become operational soon.
