The Accountability Court on Thursday allowed National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to investigate former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi in connection with the bulletproof vehicles case. While hearing the case, Duty Judge Accountability Court Shahrukh Arjumand permitted anti-graft body to probe Abbasi in the bulletproof vehicles case. Abbasi is already in the custody of the NAB in liquefied natural gas (LNG) contract scam. The NAB had arrested Abbasi on July 19 when he failed to appear before the NAB's combined investigation team (CIT) in the LNG scam.
The investigation officer of case Abdul Majid appeared before the court and requested it to grant him permission to investigate Abbasi in connection with import of 34 bulletproof cars from Germany for South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (Saarc) conference in 2016. The vehicles were to be used by the diplomats. According to the NAB, out of 34 bulletproof vehicles, 20 were included by then Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in his convoy.
The court allowed the NAB to investigate Abbasi. The NAB has also investigated Sharif, Fawad Hussain Fawad, principal secretary to then Premier Sharif, Aftab Sultan and others regarding the matter.
