Chaudhry Fawad Hussain is set to replace Nadeem Afzal Chan, as the latter has been forced to resign as spokesman for the Prime Minister for his 'inability' to effectively take on the party rivals. Chan has decided to step down after some senior party leaders expressed dissatisfaction for going soft on opposition parties given his previous associations with a political party.
"He [Chan] is going quite soft on opposition especially those belonging to the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) - this could be due to his association with party - as he had remained associated with the party for quite long," said a senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader. He said that it becomes responsibility of a spokesman particularly when he is to defend the Prime Minister, to be 'tough and rough' on those unnecessarily targeting him [Prime Minister].
He continued that Chan has been facing immense criticism from within the party for his 'lukewarm' response to the critics of the Prime Minister, adding this was the reason he has informed the Prime Minister about his decision to quit as his spokesman. However, the reports about his resignation could not be confirmed till filing of this report. The sources said that Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry has emerged as strong contender to hold the key slot. Chaudhry will also keep the portfolio of his ministry along with his new responsibility. The Prime Minister will give final approval of any decision over the matter.
