Major part of Karachi faced power outage as fresh spell of monsoon rains again lashed various city neighbourhoods on Sunday. However, K-Electric said that power supply to strategic installations such as key water board pumping stations, airport and major hospitals remained uninterrupted.
The rain force drops Karachi-based power utility to switch off electricity due to what it said water logging in parts of Bin Qasim, Orangi, Baldia and Gulshan as well as in kunda infested areas as a safety measure.
Many areas including Malir, few parts of Korangi, Bin Qasim, Gulshan, etc were facing power cut hours after the rain had stopped. KE urges civic bodies to ensure drainage of water as a prerequisite for safe and swift restoration of power.
KE teams remained vigilant and swiftly responded to any localized faults. Over 1,700 out of 1800 feeders are currently online and majority of the affected feeders were switched off on the request of district administration in view of public safety.
It is pertinent to note that during recent drives more than 500 kundas and over 120 hazardous illegal hanging street lights along with their naked wires and broken switches are removed from KE's power infrastructure in different parts of Karachi.
Customers are urged to keep safe distance from electric poles and power infrastructure. While K-Electric has repeatedly highlighted safety measures that should be taken inside homes during rains, media and emergency first responders have reported some unfortunate incidents that occurred inside premises due to internal wires, switches and electrical equipments being used indoors.
