Sahiwal killings: Victim’s brother challenges decision of not forming judicial commission
A petition was filed on Thursday at the Lahore High Court (LHC) challenging the decision of not constituting a judicial commission in the Sahiwal killings.
In January, the Counter Terrorism Department officials had shot four people, including two parents Khalil and Nabeela, their teenage daughter and their neighbour Zeeshan, terming them as terrorists. The CTD alleged that they had signaled the car to stop and ignoring their signal, the occupants of the car started firing, which the CTD retaliated.
However, witnesses said that the CTD officials had started firing at the vehicle of the family first. Following this revelation, the victims' family demanded that a judicial commission should be formed. However, the LHC had said that it no longer had the power to order the formation of a judicial commission.
The LHC's Chief Justice Sardar Mohammad Shamim Ahmed has said that the federal government now holds the jurisdiction to form a commission.
Guilty of Sahiwal incident to be given exemplary punishment: PM
Today, the plea was filed by Zeeshan's brother Ehtisham who challenged the decision and stated in his petition that a judicial commission should be constituted to investigate into the Sahiwal killings, local media reported. Ehtisham also requested the court that a case should be filed against those responsible for the death of his brother and three other victims.
The petition also argued that Zeeshan was innocent and not a terrorist as he was being termed.
On Wednesday, an anti-terrorism court had approved a 15-day remand of six suspects involved in the incident. Prime Minister Imran Khan during a recent meeting had ordered a speedy justice to the family of the victims.
