A parliamentary body Friday described the latest Indian steps in occupied Jammu and Kashmir as 'genocide' of Kashmiri people and urged the international community to take immediate notice of the 'genocidal' actions of the Modi government. The National Assembly Standing Committee on Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan met here for an in-camera session at the Parliament House in the chair of Rana Shahid Ahmed Khan.
The committee was given a detailed briefing by senior officials of the Foreign Office and officials of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir's government about the latest situation in the occupied valley. The committee adopted a unanimous resolution, strongly condemning the Modi government's actions in occupied Jammu and Kashmir amid continued imposition of curfew in the occupied valley.
"Today is the 33rd day of imposition of curfew in the occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The people are being fired with bullets. The business is closed down, food items and medicines are no more available to the people. Women are being raped and children's rights have been snatched and schools are shut continuously. The youth are subjected to worst torture. If this is not genocide what should else could be?" stated the resolution.
It stated that the people's fundamental right of religious freedom has been suspended and they are not being allowed to offer prayers in the mosques. The panel noted that the international community is silent over these actions 'because this is the issue of Muslims.' "In the prevailing dangerous scenarios in the region, the United Nations, OIC and other international organisations should play a decisive role," the committee further asserted.
Earlier briefing the committee on the latest situation in the occupied valley, Mansoor Khan, Secretary Liberation Cell of the AJK government, said that the Muslim population of Kashmiris in 1947 was 70 percent and since then, India has killed up to 300,000 Kashmir people. "Only after 2011 till now, 100,000 Kashmiri people have been killed by occupation Indian forces in the occupied Jammu and Kashmir. This is only done under a well thought-out strategy to replace the Muslim majority with Hindu minority in the disputed occupied valley," he said.
He said that under the plan, India has issued 500 domiciles of Kashmir to Hindu children and 5,000 more will also be issued. He further said that the retired officers from the Indian army are being allotted land in the disputed occupied territory.
