Vice-Chairman Pakistan Bar Council Syed Amjad Shah has strongly condemned the registration of an FIR and arrest of Ahmed Mukhtar advocate as a result of exchange of harsh words with a police official on car parking issue.
The statement issued on Saturday by PBC secretary endorsed the 'strike call' given by the Punjab Bar Council against the unbecoming conduct and action of the police.
The statement said not only Ahmed Mukhtar was confined in lockup for the whole night but his chamber was also raided by the DSP, Ferozewala, illegally. The lawyer was presented in the court next morning handcuffed by a lady constable, just to humiliate him in public. It is ironical that the lady constable, who is said to be the complainant in the matter, was deliberately permitted to hold handcuff chain in gross violation of the law, which amounts to allow creating anarchy.
The vice-chief of PBC not only strongly condemned the insulting and humiliating attitude of police towards lawyers but also demanded the inspector general of Punjab Police for thorough inquiry and strict action against the concerned SHO, DSP and DPO, Sheikhupura.
