Dispelling romours regarding privatization of public sector hospitals in the province, provincial Minister for Health Dr Yasmeen Rashid Saturday said that under Medical Teaching Institutions Act, the government is not going to privatize any public sector hospital and basic purpose to introduce MTI Act is to ensure provision of best healthcare facilities to a common man.
Accompanied by Special Assistant to Prime Minister for Information Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan and Provincial Minister for Information Punjab Mian Aslam Iqbal at a press conference, here today, Dr Yasmeen Rashid said that revolutionary measures are being taken by the government for further
facilitating the people vis-à-vis provision of health facilities.
Dr Yasmeen maintained that the government is spending Rs 4.5 million annually on one batch in any government hospital. "Neither administrative nor financial powers were given to any government hospital in the act introduced in 2003; by bringing better administration under MTI Act, quality healthcare facilities would be ensured to the patients in public sector hospitals," she said, adding: "Medical and Hospitals Directors will be appointed in government hospitals who will be fully responsible in all the affairs of hospitals."
