Punjab Governor Chaudhary Muhammad Sarwar on Monday said that the tragedy of Karbala teaches us patience, sacrifice, brotherhood and co-existence. In his message for Youm-e-Ashur, the Governor said, "The sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) has made the principles of tolerance, patience and sacrifice eternal till the Day of Judgment. The fight of right and wrong at the Karbala gives the lesson to Muslims to carry out jihad against atrocities and barbarianism. Whenever someone will talk about patience, tolerance or the fight against wrong, the bravery and sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and martyrs of Karbala will echo in human history."
Meanwhile, the Governor held a meeting with delegation of women professors from different universities. On the occasion, he said that they see political interference in universities as a crime; "we have eradicated political interference in universities to uphold the rule of law, constitution and merit, and no relief will be given to vice chancellors who will go beyond constitution and law."
"We will take our universities to the level of international standards," he said. The Governor also said, "We have to provide our new generation with a prosperous and bright Pakistan, and for that it is necessary that we strengthen universities and other departments and end political interference in these places. The current government has ended all political interference in universities, any decision of appointment, which overlooked merit, will not be tolerated."
According to him, there is immense need to focus on research, specifically research on environmental pollution. In the quest to take universities to international standards, the Vice Chancellor and responsible authorities of universities will have to come forward and play their part.
