The Auditor General of Pakistan (AGP) has recovered Rs 127.3 billion from various defaulters during 2017-18 audits of public sector organizations.
This was revealed by AGP Javaid Jehangir while presenting Annual Audit Report for the financial year 2017-18 to the President of Pakistan Dr Arif Alvi here at the Aiwan-e-Sadr on Wednesday.
The AGP said that during the financial year 2017-18, audit of Rs 13,652.145 billion was conducted and Rs 127.279 billion was recovered. Highlighting the constitutional importance of the office of Auditor General of Pakistan, the President said that transparency has to be the priority of any government to ensure good governance. He emphasized that modern technology must be integrated in the audit process to ensure transparency and further enhance efficiency.
The Auditor General of Pakistan apprised the President of salient features of the annual report and said that every effort is being made to ensure efficiency and discipline in the organization so that Pakistan could be freed from the menace of corruption. He also informed the President that the automation of the audit process is also underway.
The AGP on the directives of Public Accounts Committee has recovered Rs 503 billion from defaulters from 2008 to December 2018, Jehangir further said.
