Senate body for more industrial units in less developed areas of country
ISLAMABAD: Senate Functional Committee on Problems of Less Developed Areas Thursday recommended that the government should establish more industrial units in less developed areas of the country to provide equal jobs opportunities to the people of the areas.
The committee met here at Parliament House in chair of Senator Muhammad Usman Khan Kakar. The meeting was also attended by Senator Rahila Magsi, Senator Gianchand, Senator Qurat ul Ain Marri, Senator Haji Moin Khan Afridi, Senator Muhammad Ayub and Senator Nighat Mirza.
The committee was briefed on the role of all industries units small, medium and large for betterment of less development areas of all provinces and FATA newly merged districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for the last five years as directed by the committee in its last meeting.
Advisor to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production, Abdul Razaq Dawood, senior officials of Ministry of Industries also attended the meeting.
Speaking on this occasion, the advisor said less development areas would be compensated, adding that present government is giving top priority to the progress and prosperity of all the less developed areas.
He said Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority has started a program ‘one skill one village program’ to offer domestic skills and opportunities to locals and the government would also assist the community of the respective areas in trade and marketing sector.
The advisor said Tharparkar has large coal reserves and the government has investing that the area would be grown with complete development with the passage of time.
The chairman of committee recommended that the government should initiate more development projects in the less developed areas of the country.
The committee also recommended that authorities should establish stalls of handicrafts at every airport, five star hotels and motorways to generate revenue and create employment opportunities.
The committee also recommended that the government should announce special financial package for the less developed areas in next budget.
