Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that PPP would join the protest and sit-in of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (Fazl) against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government if the JUI-F addressed seven demands of the PPP.
The PPP chairman put these demands in a news conference after chairing a meeting of the party's core committee held at Zardari House on Wednesday night.
He said that these demands of the PPP should be accepted before the announcement of the JUI-F sit-in.
While presenting seven demands, he said that first there would be protection of supremacy of the Constitution. Secondly, the 18th Amendment should be protected; thirdly, accountability should be across the board; fourthly there should be comprehensive judicial reforms; fifthly, the 19th Amendment should be repealed; sixthly, freedom of press should be ensured in the country; and lastly, unconstitutional appointments in Election Commission of Pakistan should be done away with, as President Arif Alvi's step in this regard calls for his impeachment.
He said even if the PPP's demands are not addressed, the party will continue moral and political support to the JUI-F protest march. He said the PPP is in contact with other parties in this regard.
The PPP chairman also strongly condemned the arrest of his senior party leader Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah.
PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari Wednesday accused the government of trying to sabotage unity among political parties over the Kashmir issue, saying that PPP MNA Khursheed Shah's arrest is an attempt to divert attention from the government's failure over Kashmir.
Bilawal said this during a press conference after a core committee meeting of the party was held to deliberate the next course of action in the wake of the arrest.
"If you can't lead your own nation, how can you lead a cause outside the country?" asked Bilawal, addressing Prime Minister Imran Khan.
"When in your own country, the death of democracy is being witnessed, how can you save democracy in Kashmir," he continued. "How can [the premier] raise his voice for political prisoners in Kashmir when he is arresting politicians in his own country?" asked the PPP chairman in a rebuke to the prime minister.
