NAB granted transit remand of Shah

The Accountability Court Thursday allowed two-day transit remand of central leader of Pakistan Peoples' Party (PPP) Syed Khursheed Shah till September 21, who was arrested by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in the assets beyond means case.
The NAB official produced Shah before Accountability Court Judge Muhammad Bashir for obtaining his transit remand. The NAB official requested the court to grant him seven days transit remand of the suspect in order to produce him before a court in Sukkur for obtaining his physical remand as a corruption investigation is underway against him in the NAB Sukkur.
The judge asked NAB official how much time is taken to reach Sukkur. On this Shah told the court that it takes two hours to reach Sukkur by plane. He also said that there was also a morning flight for Sukkur that day (Thursday) as well as the next day (Friday).
The NAB official said that ticket for Sukkur-bound flight was not available. The court declined the NAB's request and granted two days transit remand of Shah.
After the hearing, Shah also met with Zardari who also appeared before the same court in connection with fake bank accounts case.
While talking to media persons, Shah said the government had committed a mistake by arresting him. He also said, "I would not have got so such media coverage which I got following my arrest." He also denied the charges leveled against him. The NAB official told Shah that he was not allowed to hold meeting (with Zardari) after the court granted his remand. Shah told him that he wanted to sit with his party leader only for 15 minutes.
On this, Zardari asked the NAB officials not to do that and allow him (Shah) to sit with him (Zardari) for some time. The NAB arrested Shah from Islamabad on Wednesday last after he failed to appear before NAB Sukkur in the assets beyond means case.
The sources said that investigations against Shah were started on August 7 and he had allegedly allotted himself an amnesty plot illegally in a cooperative society in Sukkur. The investigations revealed that Shah had allegedly constructed bungalows, petrol pumps and hotels in the name of other people (Benamidar).
The NAB's Executive Board Meeting (EBM) presided over by Chairman NAB Justice Javed Iqbal (retd) on August 7 approved a corruption inquiry against Shah.
Later, NAB officials shifted Khursheed Shah to Polyclinic Hospital after his condition worsened in custody. As per details, Shah had pain in his abdomen after which he was rushed to hospital where he underwent medical examination. Shah was having difficulty in breathing, while his heartbeat rate was also recorded higher than normal.
