The Accountability Court hearing the multibillion rupees fake bank accounts case on Friday extended judicial remand of Chairman Sindh Engro Coal Mining Company Khursheed Anwar Jamali till October 16.
The officials of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) produced Jamali before Accountability Court Judge Muhammad Bashir on expiry of term of his physical remand. The court extended judicial remand of the accused till October 16.
Jamali along with two other accused including CEO M/s Technomen Kinetics Pvt Ltd Syed Asif Mehmood and Director Nooriabad Power Company Syed Arif Ali had requested for plea bargain in July but Jamali on the previous hearing backtracked from plea bargain.
During the previous hearing, the NAB prosecutor said that the name of Jamali was included in investigation by the joint investigation team (JIT). However, he was also arrested over corruption charges in Nooriabad Power Plant project. The accused persons have allegedly committed corruption in purchase of machinery for Nooriabad Power Plant project, the prosecutor told the court.
The Bureau said that his name is on the Exit Control List (ECL). The Nooriabad Power Plant project was launched in 2014 under a public-private partnership at the cost of Rs 13 billion in which the government of Sindh held 49 percent shares and a private company owned 51 percent. Around 95 km-long 132kV double-circuit transmission lines were laid from Nooriabad to Karachi at the cost of Rs 1.95 billion.
