At a time when the government has managed to borrow loans from friendly countries and is awaiting for the second tranche of loan from International Monetary Fund (IMF), a parliamentary panel was informed on Friday that a tender for a state-of-the-art beauty salon inside the Parliament Lodges will be floated soon.
The Senate House Committee, which met here with Senator Muhammad Yousaf Badni in the chair, was all praise for Capital Development Authority (CDA) after it was told that tender for construction of a beauty salon inside lodges will soon be floated.
The ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), especially Prime Minister Imran Khan, never exhausts of talking tall about so-called austerity measures of the government, but has failed to make a slight difference in controlling misuse of taxpayers money and the extravaganzas of the 'make-up loving' lawmakers.
Earlier, the provincial government of Sindh, which has failed to clear the port city from garbage and is unable to save the children falling prey to hunger, starvation and diseases, had announced construction of a beauty salon for the MPs.
Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani, who is currently facing graft cases, had said that a "beauty parlor for women and a salon for men" would be built.
Impressed by the provincial government of Sindh, the lawmakers in the centre have also pressed and anxiously been waiting for constriction of beauty parlor for both male and female lawmakers.
The lawmakers attending the committee, both men and women, were all smile when they came to know that a state-of-the-art beauty parlor will soon be built and made functional for them inside the Lodges.
Another issue on which the committee members expressed concern and reprimanded the civic body officials was that anti-dengue fumigation was not conducted inside the Parliament Lodges.
But not a single a lawmaker even asked the situation outside the Lodges as number of dengue patients in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad is increasing with each passing day.
The committee chairman issued standing orders to the CDA official to immediately conduct anti-dengue mosquito fumigation and spray inside the Lodges.
The committee also expressed concern over non-availability of medics inside the Lodges' dispensary, adding purchase of new ambulances should also be expedited so that the MPs could be rushed to the nearby hospitals in case of any emergency.
But the committee did not say a single word about deteriorating condition of public sector hospitals in the twin cities, where people could be seen treated in the lawns at stretchers due to non-availability of space.
