Executive Director of COMSATS Dr SM Junaid Zaidi Saturday said that Pakistan is a country which can progress greatly in the field of science and technology because it possesses great talent and potential. He was talking to media persons here at COMSATS Secretariat. The executive director also said that COMSATS has a great potential to sensitize the world to rely on science and technology for progress and prosperity of the people in the less-developed countries in Asia, Latin America and Africa.
Dr SM Junaid Zaidi briefed media persons that Commission on Science & Technology for Sustainable Development in the South (COMSATS) is going to celebrate its silver jubilee next month and a summit in this connection would be held in Ghana on October 29, 2019.
President Ghana Nana Akufu Addo, who is the current chairperson of COMSATS, would chair the fourth heads of states and governments meeting. Executive Director COMSATS Zaidi along with his delegation would participate in this meeting. Agenda of the meeting is to enhance the outreach of COMSATS across the globe and devise ways to generate more interest of the developed countries to increase their level of cooperation with the countries of the South.
Dr SM Junaid Zaidi said that COMSATS is an intergovernmental organization which has a history of bridging the gap of scientific progress in the fields of agriculture, energy, climate change, health, education, etc. by sensitizing the underdeveloped countries to use scientific and technological means of progress in traditional ways of communication. A series of events and functions are already in progress in the member countries to propose relevant recommendations to be taken up in the upcoming summit.
