The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Wednesday initiated another corruption inquiry against President Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Shahbaz Sharif. An official said the NAB Executive Board Meeting (EBM) authorized the corruption inquiry against Sharif and other politicians including member of provincial assembly (MPA) Mohsin Latif, MPA Ali Hassan Zardari, MPA Muhammad Tahir and former deputy speaker Sardar Sher Ali Gorchani.
He said the meeting, which was presided over by Chairman NAB former Justice Javed Iqbal, also launched corruption inquiries against Chief Engineer Public Works Department (PWD) Gilgit-Baltistan Rashid Ahmed, officials of Department of Revenue, officials of Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), officers and officials of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and owners of Shaheen Air International and Shaheen Engineering and Aircraft Maintenance.
The official said the Bureau also decided to file two corruption references; one against Dr Muhammad Amjad and other against Eden Housing Society. The accused allegedly deceived the public in the name of sale of plots and there are also allegations of fraud against the suspects to the tune of over Rs 25 billion. The NAB has also decided to file another reference against owners and partners of Karobar Company Karachi. There is an allegation of sale of substandard wheat at exorbitant price which incurred loss of Rs 80 million to the national exchequer.
The official said the NAB meeting also okayed launching of five corruption investigations. The NAB has started investigation against owners and directors of Nirala MSR Food Limited, officers and employees of Mian Rashid Hussain Shaheed Memorial Hospital Pabbi, officers and officials of Frontier Constabulary, management of Metro Corporation Quetta, former secretary Maqbool Ahmed of Department of Mines and Minerals, government of Balochistan, and others.
He said the EBM referred cases against the Capital Development Authority (CDA) officers and officials, Pakistan Foreign Office Women's Association (PFOWA), and Waheed Public Trust to concerned department for further action. The Bureau also referred the case against Dr Nasir Ali Khan, project director Fachhochschule Institute of Applied Sciences and Technology, to chief secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for further legal action.
