A parliamentary panel on Thursday deferred "The Cigarettes Printing of Warning (Amendment) Bill, 2019," moved by Amjad Ali Khan, and "The Islamabad Transfusion of Safe Blood (Amendment) Bill, 2019," moved by Mian Najeeb-ud-Din Awaisi, due to the absence of the movers.
The meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee on National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination was held here at the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination. MNA Khalid Hussain Magsi chaired the meeting of the committee.
The committee also discussed "The Federal Newborn Screening Bill, 2019," moved by Nafeesa Inayatullah Khattak. After having detailed deliberations on the bill, the committee directed the ministry to arrange a meeting with the mover of the bill, develop consensus on the said legislation and come up with the proposals for consideration of the committee in its next meeting.
The committee constituted a four-member subcommittee. Dr Nisar Ahmed Cheema was elected as convener and other members included Jai Parkash, Ramesh Lal and Prof Shahnaz Naseer Baloch.
The terms of reference of the subcommittee included evaluation of the performance of Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan with special focus on quality assurance of raw material and end products, registration of pharmaceutical companies and drugs, and pricing of drugs.
The report on the performance of Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan made by the Prime Minister's Inspection Commission would be discussed in the upcoming meeting.
