Inflation based on the Sensitive Price Index (SPI) for combined income groups has witnessed an increase of 0.19 percent during the week ended September 26, 2019 against September 19, 2019 as it jumped from 126.56 points to 126.80 points, said the data released by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) on Monday.
According to the PBS, the weekly inflation related data based on 2015-16 mechanism covering 17 urban centers and 51 essential items for all income groups revealed that inflation for combined income groups on year-on-year basis recorded an increase of 18.16 percent and jumped from 107.31 points on September 27, 2018 to 126.80 points on September 26, 2019.
According to the data, SPI for monthly income group with income of Rs 17,732 registered an increase of 0.17 percent on weekly basis from 129.33 points to 129.55 points and on annual basis it went up by 15.06 percent from 112.59 points to 129.55 points. For the income group of Rs 17,732-22,888, the SPI recorded an increase of 0.18 percent from 124.97 points to 125.19 points and on annual basis it witnessed an increase of 15.98 percent from 107.94 points to 125.19 points.
For the monthly income group of Rs 22,889-29,517, weekly inflation increased by 0.18 percent from 127.56 points to 127.79 points and on annual basis it went up by 19.86 percent from 106.62 points to 127.79 points. Weekly inflation for the income group with monthly income of Rs 29,518-44,175 jumped up by 0.18 percent from 125.24 points to 125.47 points and on annual basis SPI for the above income group jumped up by 19.83 percent from 104.71 points to 125.47 points.
For the income group of Rs 44,175 or above monthly income, weekly inflation went up by 0.19 percent from 128.61 points to 128.85 points and on annual basis SPI for the income group witnessed an increase of 19.00 percent from 108.28 points to 128.85 points.
During the week under review, prices of the following 21 commodities witnessed an increase: tomatoes, eggs, fresh milk, liquefied petroleum gas cylinder, broken basmati rice, vegetable ghee Dalda/Habib, shirting, prepared tea, course rice (Irri-6), Gur, gram pulse, Lipton Yellow Label Tea, curd, cooked beef, wheat flour, Nido powdered milk, mutton and others.
While average prices of 8 items during the week under review registered a reduction which include, local bananas, chicken, potatoes, Masoor pulse, refined sugar, onion and garlic.
According to PBS, during the aforementioned period, prices of 22 items remained unchanged, including bread, petrol, gents sandal, ladies sandal, match box, hi-speed diesel, telephone call charges, clothing, powdered salt and others.
