SINGAPORE: Vietnam will import its first ever US crude oil cargo in May for trial runs at a domestic refinery as it seeks to widen its purchase options, three trade sources said.

State oil marketing company PV Oil bought the spot cargo of West Texas Intermediate (WTI) Midland crude from a major oil company, they said.

The cargo will be delivered onboard an Aframax tanker that can carry up to 600,000 barrels of oil to the Binh Son refinery, one of the sources said.

He added that the price was competitive with Vietnamese grades which are currently processed at the refinery.

PV Oil also bought Champion crude from Brunei in a term tender earlier this month, in addition to annual supplies of Azeri Light crude which it had purchased earlier, the sources said.
