Balochistan brings in army to help after emergency declared due to heavy rain
Issuing an emergency alert on Thursday in Lasbela district in Balochistan after flash flooding, the provincial government has brought in Pakistan Army for assistance.
The deputy commissioner of Lasbela has said that a rescue operation to evacuate around 200 families trapped in a village in Lasbela is in progress, local media reported. The deputy commissioner added that the government has sought assistance from the army.
He further said that four helicopters of Pakistan Army will help in the rescue operation. The flash flooding has been caused by heavy rainfalls in the area. Home Minister Ziaullah Longove, who visited affected areas, said that relief goods have been dispatched to the province.
Last week, the Pakistan Meteorological Department had predicted widespread rain-thunderstorm with few moderate to scattered heavy falls in Balochistan.
