MWC 2019: LG introduces gesture-controlled phone with vein recognition

Smartphone maker LG kicked off the Mobile World Congress 2019 with spectacular smartphones having amazing features

Smartphone maker LG kicked off the Mobile World Congress 2019 with spectacular smartphones having amazing features including second attachable screen, vein recognition and 5G-ability.

If facial recognition was not enough, LG’s new LG G8 ThinQ features new motion and gesture-detection features through its updated front-facing camera setup, which LG calls the ‘Z-camera’ where it uses a 3D ToF sensor to perform the unique tasks.

The ‘Hand ID’ feature works by pulsing an infrared signal at the user’s palm where it can extract a map of their veins based on how the hemoglobin in their blood absorbs the infra-red signal, allowing the user to unlock their phone through their palm. According to LG, these vein maps are really difficult to beat from a security perspective, reported The Verge.

The Z-camera is also used for ‘Air Motion’ through which user can control phone with their gestures by simply waving their hand over it. As of for the specs, the phone features updated camera with new features and modes, updated speakers where the phone vibrates the entire glass front panel to create sound, as the rumors said. The G8 ThinQ comes with 6GB RAM, 128GB storage, additional rear fingerprint sensor and a 3,500mAh battery.

Other than the G8 ThinQ, LG also stepped in the 5G market by introducing the V50 ThinQ with massive 4,000mAh battery and most importantly, a second attachable screen, which is LG’s way of answering the foldable phone mania.
