LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday, adjourning hearing of petitions for formation of a judicial commission on the Sahiwal incident till March 18, sought the judicial inquiry report on the incident.
The bench, headed by LHC Chief Justice Sardar Muhammad Shamim Khan, passed the orders while hearing the petitions, filed by Muhammad Jalil, brother of victim Khalil, and others for formation of the judicial commission. As the proceedings resumed, joint investigation team (JIT) head Syed Ijaz Shah, appeared before the bench and submitted a report.
Additional Prosecutor General Punjab Abdul Samad submitted that six Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) officials were declared responsible for the incident and a report had also been submitted in the trial court, besides a list of 63 witnesses.
The trial court had summoned the accused for March 7, he added. Additional Attorney General Ishtiaq A Khan submitted that Senior Civil Judge Sahiwal had initiated an inquiry into the incident as per directions of the bench. He stated that since the judicial inquiry had been in progress, the judicial commission was no longer required in the case. To a court inquiry, it was apprised that judicial inquiry's one-month time would expire on March 14.
Subsequently, the bench, adjourning the hearing till March 18, sought the judicial inquiry report. The bench also declared the application for quashment of FIR against the victims as non-maintainable.
