‘Wonder Woman’ Gal Gadot takes stand against Israeli prime minister
‘Wonder Woman’ star Gal Gadot got into a debate with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu after he said the country is the homeland ‘only of the Jewish people’.
Netanyahu caused a stir when he said Israel was not a state of all its citizens, referring to Arabs who make up 20% of its population. Israel-born actress wasn’t too pleased with his statement and responded by saying, “Love thy neighbor”.
“It is not a matter of right or left, Arabs or Jews, secular or religious,” she added. “It is a matter of dialogue, of dialogue for peace, and of our tolerance for each other. It is our responsibility to shine hope and light for a better future for our children,” foreign media reported.
Earlier Sunday, Netanyahu addressed ‘slightly confused people’ on Instagram after model and actor Rotem Sela defended the rights of Arab Israelis.
“Israel is not a state for all its citizens. According to the nation-state law that we passed, Israel is the state of the Jewish people — and belongs to them alone,” Netanyahu wrote.
Gadot is generally seen as someone who prefers to stay out of politics, but she came to Sela's defense to go against the Israeli PM.
