‘Captain Marvel’ is not releasing in Pakistan
One of Hollywood’s most anticipated films of 2019 ‘Captain Marvel’ was scheduled to release on March 15 in Pakistan, however, the makers have stopped the release in the country.
Disney’s magnum opus has taken the worldwide box office by a storm and fans are going gaga over the film. But Disney South Asia regional office has refused to give rights of the film to run in Pakistan.
One of Pakistan’s leading cinemas, Cinepax, has updated the fans about the release of the film. “We are sad to announce that the Disney's regional office didn't give Pakistan the rights to run Captain Marvel. Hence, Captain Marvel is not releasing in Pakistan,” they wrote on their official Facebook handle.
Though the reason still remains unclear but interestingly, according to Variety, Disney’s South Asia regional office is in India and headed by Mahesh Samat and we wonder if India has anything to do with stopping Captain Marvel’s release in Pakistan.
However, unconfirmed reports also suggest that the distributor for Marvel/Disney films in Pakistan, Eveready Pictures, might not have paid dues to Disney. Other rumors also suggest that Disney may have demanded a higher percentage of the profits due to last year's Avengers: Infinity War's success in Pakistan and that the local distributors are probably not happy about it.
With Disney’s ‘Avengers: End Game’ releasing next month on April 24 worldwide, we will have to wait and see whether the movie gets a go ahead for release in Pakistan or if it meets the same fate as Captain Marvel.
