E&P department recovers Rs50.2mn in four months

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Secretary Energy and Power Sarfaraz Durrani on Tuesday informed that a record recovery of Rs. 50.2 million had been made from defaulters and illegal power consumers during last four months.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided restructuring of Electric Inspectorate in order to make it more effective organization to address issues of power consumers, says a handout.

The government has decided to setup regional offices of Electric Inspectorate in five other districts besides its headquarters in Peshawar.

The decision was taken at a high level meeting chaired by Secretary Energy and Power Sarfaraz Durrani here on Tuesday. Among others who were present included Additional Secretary Power Zafarul Islam, Chief Executive PEDO Engineer Zainullah Shah, Deputy Secretary Muhammad Touseef, Electric Inspector Ihsanullah Khan, Section Officer General Malik Muhammad Ali.

Giving briefing to Secretary Power and Energy, it was informed that consumers were facing multiple issues like over-billing, disconnections, load voltage, new connections which needs to be addressed.

The meeting discussed suggestion of opening regional offices Electric Inspectorate in Swat, Peshawar, Nowshera, Bannu and Abbotabad to resolve issue along with PESCO and Wapda.

The meeting was informed that Electric Inspectorate was collecting revenue of millions of rupees on account of electric duties.

The Secretary Energy and Power stressed the need of restructuring of Electric Inspectorate so that it could be consumer friendly institution which could timely address their issues under one window operation.
