Anti-encroachment case put off for indefinite period
The hearing of the anti-encroachment case in Karachi was put off for indefinite period after Justice Muneeb Akhtar excused from hearing the case.
A two-member bench headed by Justice Gulzar Ahmed was scheduled to hear the case at Karachi Registry of the apex court today (Tuesday).
Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar and former City Nazim Naimatullah Khan turned up in the court. However hearing couldn't proceed due to refusal of Justice Akhtar.
Following the refusal, the hearing of the case was put off for indefinite period.
On October 27, the SC directed to city authorities to remove all encroachments from the city’s amenity plots and pavements with the help of law enforcement agencies and granted them a 15-day deadline for compliance of its orders.
The apex court in a previous hearing of the case in February ruled that the operation to rid Karachi of illegal encroachments would continue.
