KARACHI: An Accountability Court (AC) on Saturday extended the physical remand of Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani till 12 April in a case pertaining to amassing assets beyond declared income.

Durrani was brought to the court amid tight security. Heavy police contingents were deployed outside the court.

The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) workers reached outside the court building and greeted Siraj when National Accountability Bureau (NAB) officials brought him in an armored vehicle to the court.

As the hearing started, the NAB sought 15 days’ physical remand of Durrani for further inquiring the case.

Durrani told the court that the NAB officers were again and again asking the similar questions.

“They are not inquiring me about any new issue,” he said The NAB prosecutor told the court that proofs about buying vehicles and assets by the accused have been found. He claimed that evidence of money laundering against Durrani has also found during the investigation.

NAB’s investigation officer told the accountability court that his assets in last 10 years should have amounted to Rs. 110 million but instead Durrani has got assets of Rs. 440 million.

He said pay orders worth Rs240 million have also been found, and it is to be seen who arranged this money. Talking to media outside the court, Durrani said that he will approach to any forum for justice and said that he hopes for justice from the accountability court.
