LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif said that Punjab government is committed to protect rights of women and has taken a number of steps in this regard.
Addressing a function held in connection with International Women Day here at Cultural Complex on Thursday, he said after the enactment of a legislation making illegal to deprive women of their inheritance now they would get their due share in property without any hindrance.
He said in the rural areas, a women after the death of her father, would automatically get her share in the property without applying to patwari or any other revenue officer.
Shahbaz Sharif said now the revenue officer would be bound to transfer the shares to all heirs including females.
He said to check irregularities in the transfer of land to legal heirs, district level committees would be set up which would meet every month.
In the urban areas property transfer process would be completed within 60 days, he added.
Shahbaz Sharif announced Rs 20 billion package for advancing soft term loans to the youth to enable them to start their own businesses.
He said plots of 3 to 5 marlas to be allotted by the government to the landless, would have joint owership of husband and wife.
He further said 15 percent quota has been reserved for women in government departments .
To appriciate the role of woman he apponted Iram Qureshi a senior officer as secretary Women Development Punjab.
He said day care centres would be established in the province.
Appreciating girls keen interest in studies, the chief minister said 70 percent students were females who were showing tremendous results. After receiving education, women should work for the development of the country.
He said though Pakistan is a male dominted society, the role of women in all fields especially whenever country faced disasters had always been tremendous.
He appreciated the role of Sheher Bano,daughter of former governor Salman Taseer,for bravely facing threats and continuing to work for the country.
